Uppsala Regional Council
The eight municipalities together with the County Council constitute the Uppsala Regional Council. We focus on the development and the future of the region.
This means:

creating attractive living environments and favourable living conditions

stimulating vigorous and competitive trade and industry

developing appropriate skills for the labour market

improving the infrastructure and achieveing well functioning public transportation

promoting Uppsala county both nationally and internationally

addressing climate change and energy issues
Policies and decisionmakingThe Uppsala Regional Council is a forum for political decisions in Uppsala County. The highest policy and decisionmaking body is the Council Assembly. Our object is to strengthen the cooperation on the regional level and to work for regional and economic development. The politicians are selected by the boards of the County Council and the town councils in each municipality in the county. The board is responsible for the everyday work and has two drafting committees at its disposal:
a Traffic and Planning Committee and a Committee for Growth and Competence Supply.Regional Development ProgrammeA regional development programme was drawn up in 2003. The program is revised once every fourth year. Built on the analyses of the region´s conditions and potential the programme elaborates the goals for Uppsala County's long term development. On the basis of the analysis, the Uppsala Regional Council prioritises initiatives to realise regional development.
Infrastructure
The Swedish government has assigned responsibility to the National Road Administration/National Rail Administration and the counties, respectively, to identify long-term plans for national and regional transport infrastructure for the period of 2004-2015. In Uppsala County, Uppsala Regional Council has the responsibility for the county plan.
Welfare issues
The Uppsala Regional Council works to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants in the region. Through broad cooperation, the municipalities and the County Council are to contribute to long term development in the fields of health, education, housing, employment and economy.
The Uppsala Regional Council operates a research and development department in cooperation with Uppsala University. The R&D activities are directed towards research and development in the fields of:
- the elderly
- the disabled
- children and young people
- drug and alcohol misuse/abuse
The aim is to support the development of evidence-based practice within the social services and associated sections of the health care system.
The Uppsala Regional Council consists of the County Council and the eight municipalities of Uppsala County: Enköping, Heby, Håbo, Knivsta, Tierp, Uppsala, Älvkarleby and Östhammar.
